Seminar explores ways to generate jobs for people with disabilities

(VOVWORLD) -A seminar took place on Tuesday in Hanoi to discuss measures to create jobs for people with disabilities in Vietnam.

Vietnam has 6.3 million people with disabilities, according to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. The employment rate for people with disabilities who are 15 and older is 36%. The rate for people without disabilities is 60%. For a person with a disability, having a job can improve their life, affirm their equality of opportunity, and provide social security.

Pham Quang Khoat, Chairman of Hanoi’s Hoang Mai district’s Disabled People Association, said that having a job helps people with disabilities earn a living and integrate into the community, and boosts their self-esteem. Society needs to help people with disabilities find a job that matches their abilities, he added.

Delegates from the National Committee for Vietnamese Persons with Disabilities and the World Bank suggested improving the mechanism and policy on employment for people with disabilities in Vietnam.
