Judges announced the decision on Monday during a meeting to set a hearing date and review arguments and evidence. All future hearings and trials will be public, and President Yoon must attend, except for the first hearing on December 27.
According to regulations, the Constitutional Court has up to 180 days to deliver a verdict. If the court approves the impeachment resolution, President Yoon will be removed from office, becoming the second South Korean president to be removed after Park Geun-hye in 2017. If the court removes Mr Yoon or he resigns, a national election to choose his successor must be held within 60 days.
