With a majority in parliament, the opposition Democratic Party passed a bill this month to appoint a special counsel to pursue charges of insurrection, among others, against President Yoon and to investigate his wife over the alleged involvement in a stock manipulation scheme and interference in election nominations through a power broker.

The opposition is urging acting president Han to promulgate the special counsel bills by Tuesday otherwise, it will initiate impeachment proceedings against him. Han's office hasn’t made any comment for the warning.

Also on Monday, a joint investigative team including police and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials made a second attempt to call Yoon in for questioning on Wednesday, though it was unclear whether he would appear.
