(VOVworld)- The Central Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction convened its meeting in Hanoi on Friday. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, Head of the Committee said the poverty rate remains too high. Although the national poverty rate is about 2%, in disadvantaged mountainous regions it is 5%. Ninh said that in 2015 Vietnam needs to review its mechanism for permanent poverty reduction to achieve the target poverty reduction rate of between 1 and 1.5% in the 2016-2020 period. Ninh stressed the importance of helping poor people reduce their poverty through the government program on rapid and sustainable poverty reduction in 64 poor districts.
