In just over a year since the Prime Minister launched the movement on April 13, 2024, more than 330,000 makeshift and dilapidated houses were rebuilt with a total budget of 1.9 billion USD, the Ministry said at a conference on Tuesday. All housing support for people with meritorious service and relatives of martyrs was completed before July 24 this year.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hailed the achievement as a miracle that contributes to sustainable poverty reduction and strengthens the approach of development for social equity, progress, and sustainability in the new era.

“Each house is a vivid symbol - a ‘gift,’ a ‘home,’ an ‘act of compassion’ - of sharing with those in hardship and gratitude to those who rendered services to the nation,” he said. “The success of the movement reflects the Party’s sound policies, affirms Vietnam’s humanitarian values and fine traditions, fosters national pride and patriotism, strengthens public trust in the Party, and consolidates national solidarity.”

The Prime Minister underlined that eliminating substandard housing is only the first step toward ensuring stable livelihoods.

“There must be breakthrough policies to help these households secure sustainable livelihoods so that by 2030 Vietnam will basically have no poor households. We must create jobs and income for the people, while promoting social welfare,” he noted.
