Thai opposition party petitions to cancel national election

(VOVworld) – Thailand’s main opposition party petitioned to cancel the national election on Tuesday.

Wiratana Kalayasiri, a lawyer and head of the legal team of the Democrat Party (DP), said in the petition DP asked for the dissolution of ruling party of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra saying that the polls violated the constitution on several points, and that the election was not completed in one day.

Meanwhile, the US announced that it does not want to witness a military coup nor violence in Thailand, expressing its concern over the political tension which challenges democracy in this country. Spokesperson for the US Department of State Jen Psaki said everyone in Thailand should be aware of the importance of using democracy and constitution to solve political differences. Psaki added that the US does not side with any party and urges all parties to hold dialogue to solve political disputes in a peaceful and democratic manner.
