(VOVworld) - Thailand has no intention of inviting UN observers to its August referendum on the draft constitution, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Wednesday. But he added that international observers may be invited to the next general election, slated for 2017.

Earlier, the UN released a statement, confirming its willingness to support Thailand at this turning point to facilitate a quick return to democracy, while underscoring the importance of an open and inclusive debate ahead of the referendum.
The Constitution Drafting Commission released the draft charter in late March, which was expected to resolve the decade-long political crisis in Thailand.
