(VOVworld) – Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has canceled former premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s passport because he is deemed to have “endangered national security” in a recent interview.

The Foreign Ministry said it was asked to take action against Thaksin after police deemed that “part of his interview endangered national security or national reputation”. According to its statement, the Foreign Ministry decided that reasons cited by security agencies and police justified canceling his passport under the ministry’s regulations. The Foreign Ministry said two passports belonging to Thaksin had been cancelled effective May 26.

In an interview with the press of the Republic of Korea, Thaksin said anti-government street protests had been orchestrated in the Thai capital and elsewhere in the country last year to pressure the Thai military to overthrow the Yingluck Shinawatra government.
