(VOVworld) – A Pakistani Army helicopter crashed in the mountains near Mansehra district on Wednesday, killing 12 people.

According to a senior police official, an MI-17 air ambulance helicopter carrying a medical team, relief items, and medicines was on its way to northern Gilgit to assist flood victims. Witnesses said the helicopter caught fire after crashing and all the bodies of the sky team and medical staff were burnt. The helicopter fell in a forested mountain area, hampering rescue efforts. The accident was probably caused by bad weather. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families.
