At a press briefing in London on Friday, the Lord Mayor said that Vietnam needs new infrastructure to develop and modernise its emerging economy and the UK has much experience in this field, as well as abundant capital to invest in it. David Wootton will lead a business delegation to Vietnam in late September to promote cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries. During his stay in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from September 22-26, Mayor Wootton will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, as well as the Finance Minister, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), and business leaders to discuss pilot public-private partnership (PPP) projects. He said he hopes that the visit will help the two countries achieve their set targets of increasing UK direct investment in Vietnam and raising two-way trade turnover to US$4 billion by 2013.
