Countries of the Global South are understood to be those outside Europe and North America.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that he will attend the next peace conference if Russia will also be there. The message came just days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine, where he said he would support negotiations and diplomacy to restore peace and stability in Ukraine.

President Zelensky also met with several leaders from countries in the Global South, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

In June, a peace conference for Ukraine was held in Switzerland attended by leaders and senior officials from more than 90 countries, but Russia was absent.

The TASS news agency quoted Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov as saying that Moscow was not ready to negotiate peace with Ukraine due to Kiev's attack on Russia's Kursk province, but Russia did not withdraw its previous peace proposal.
