(VOVworld) – A dialogue was held on Friday to end the current political crisis in Ukraine but both the government and the opposition only agreed on a limited understanding of each other.

The opposition asked the government to resign following violent clashes between police and protesters and to release political prisoners.

In reply, President Viktor Yanukovych said he will only accept a proposal to set free innocent people who have been detained after the clashes. He was also committed to punishing those who triggered the conflict regardless they are policemen or protesters.

Yanukovych said the parliament is the only agency to have the jurisdiction to remove the cabinet. Meanwhile, dialogue participants said the situation in Ukraine has reached a dangerous level and will worsen unless it is resolved in time.

Tens of thousands of people have flocked to Kiev to express their support for President Yanukovych and his government. The opposition party has announced to hold a mass demonstration on Sunday.
