US Congress convenes to confirm Trump’s victory
(VOVWORLD) -Despite the massive winter storm raging across the US, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said on Sunday that the US Congress is set to officially confirm Donald Trump's election as president.

Johnson said during an appearance on Fox News that the Electoral Count Act requires the certification of the election victory on January 6th at 1 p.m. local time.
So whether there is a blizzard or not, lawmakers are going to be in that chamber making sure this is done, said Johnson, adding that most lawmakers returned to Washington, D.C., last Friday after their winter break, and Republicans met on Saturday to discuss legislative priorities.
Severe weather warnings have been issued across the east US since Sunday. Washington DC is expected to experience snowfall and wet snow ranging from 7 to 18 cm, which may complicate commutes. The city ordered the closure of public schools on Monday.
