US, Japan, and South Korea to deploy missile warning data sharing mechanism
(VOVWORLD) - The defense chiefs of South Korea, the US, and Japan agreed on Sunday to begin sharing real-time missile-warning data next month to better detect and assess North Korea’s ballistic missile launches.
The agreement was reached during US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s visit to Seoul for annual security talks with South Korean defense chief Shin Won-sik. Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara joined the meeting online.
Following their discussion, the three said the data-sharing mechanism is now in the final stages of testing and will be fully operational by the end of December, according to a Pentagon statement.
The three officials also agreed to create a multiyear joint training plan.
