US president applauds positive step in US-EU trade negotiations
(VOVWORLD) -US President Donald Trump described the EU’s plan to initiate trade negotiations as a positive step and said he hopes Europe will “open its doors” to trade with the US.

However, in a post on Truth Social, Trump repeated his warning that the US will unilaterally impose its own trade terms if the two sides fail to reach an agreement or if Washington is treated unfairly.
US and EU trade representatives will meet next Monday, as European policymakers assess the US investment plans of companies within the bloc.
Following what were described as constructive phone calls with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic said Monday that the European Commission remains committed to making constructive and focused efforts to quickly reach a trade agreement with the US.
