At a press briefing Monday following the G20 summit, President Putin said the Paris attacks show the need for a united front to fight international terrorists, a proposal he put forward at the UN General Assembly in September. President Obama said for the US to deploy ground troops in Syria would “be a mistake”. The US-led coalition against IS will intensify its strategy rather than shift to another strategy, even though the terrorists have threatened to attack Washington. He said the key is to resolve the political crisis in Syria, which would reduce the territory over which IS holds sway, handing it over to local forces who can hold it and keep IS out permanently.
