US tightens security on September 11th anniversary

(VOVworld) – Security has been tightened at public places and strategic locations inside and outside the US for the 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The White House considered security measures necessary to prevent any incidents similar to the assault to the US Consulate in Benghazi city, Libya, in 2012, which killed the US Ambassador to Libya and 3 others. Homeland Security and Counterterrorism adviser Lisa Monaco was tasked with overseeing the security measures during this period. The US State Department last month ordered the closure of its 19 diplomatic posts in the Middle East and Africa due to fear of possible terrorist attacks after several intelligence sources had warned of an Al Qaeda attack plan.
