VESAK 2025 in Vietnam spreads message of peace and equality

(VOVWORLD) - The ongoing United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 celebration in Ho Chi Minh City is delivering a powerful message of peace, compassion, and sustainable development, deeply rooted in Buddhist philosophy.

In his message to the event, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that in an era of profound challenges, "these timeless principles must guide our shared path forward".

"As we honor the sacred occasion, may we be inspired to bridge divides, foster solidarity, and work together towards a more peaceful, sustainable, and harmonious world," he added.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka commended Vietnam—a nation with a profound Buddhist tradition—for hosting the event.

UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, said that the government of Vietnam's leadership and support to host the 20th UN Vesak once again in the Ho Chi Minh city underscores its vital role in promoting the universal values of peace and cooperation.

It also highlights the significant attribution of Buddhist teachings to global development discourse, she noted.
