Vietnam, China hold talks on territory, border
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and China have fully complied with important common perceptions reached between their senior leaders and the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between the two countries.
The statement was made at a government-level negotiation on territorial and border issues between Vietnam and China on Monday, co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and his counterpart Kong Xuanyou.
The two sides discussed cooperation orientations to resolve pending issues and further foster relations in 2019 as a contribution to boosting the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership. They agreed to accelerate the settlement of maritime issues in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, control disputes, deal with issues at sea, not to complicate the situation, advance cooperation, and maintain peace and stability at sea. They pledged to continue working with ASEAN countries to realize the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon finalize the Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
