Vietnam, China pledge to further bilateral ties

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday made a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the occasion of the traditional lunar New Year and the 70thanniversary of diplomatic ties.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated the Chinese Party, Government and people for their progress in national construction, development and reform and sent his best wishes to the Chinese people on the lunar New Year. The Vietnamese leader emphasized on bilateral friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of both peoples. He called for the maintenance of traditional friendship, strengthening of people-to-people exchanges to create solid foundation for bilateral ties, and consistently pursuing peaceful measures to address remaining issues based on common perception of both countries' leaders in line with international law to promote stable and positive bilateral ties for peace, cooperation and development. Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi said China respects traditional friendship and neighborliness with Vietnam and is ready to strengthen political trust for practical cooperation for both peoples' benefit while promoting people-to-people exchanges. He said China actively supports Vietnam’s non-permanent membership at the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure as well as Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year.
