In an interview with Vietnamese media in New York, Ambassador Viet highlighted several key milestones.

First, the close attention and direct engagement of senior Party and State leaders in major UN activities conveyed strong messages on upholding peace, strengthening multilateralism, addressing shared challenges and promoting sustainable development.

Second, Vietnam successfully hosted the signing ceremony of the Convention against Cybercrime, marking a historic milestone as Hanoi became, for the first time, the namesake of a global international treaty: the “Hanoi Convention.”

Third, Vietnam was among the few countries to receive a second visit by UN Secretary-General António Guterres within a single term. Mr. Guterres affirmed that Vietnam is an excellent partner of the UN and a pillar of today’s multipolar world.

Fourth, Vietnam was re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council with the highest number of votes among Asia–Pacific candidates.

Fifth, Vietnam began its role as President-designate of the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), conducting extensive consultations with countries across regions and leaving a positive impression of its leadership and coordination capacity in a process vital to international peace and security.

Ambassador Viet said Vietnam’s key task in 2026 will be assuming the presidency of the NPT Review Conference in April-May, marking the first time Vietnam chairs a leading global mechanism on nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament, and nuclear security and safety.

He added that Vietnam will continue to actively participate in and promote its role within multilateral mechanisms and organizations, including the UN Human Rights Council.
