Uzbekistan led 1-0 with a header in the 8th minute by defender Rustamjon Ashurmatov. Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai equalized with a free kick in the 41^st  minute but a goal by Andrey Sidorov in the last minute of extra time sealed the trophy for Uzbekistan.   

Vietnam became the first Southeast Asian country to reach the final at the competition. Vietnam, considered the underdog at the beginning of the game, lost 1-2 to South Korea, defeated Australia 1-0, and drew Syria 0-0 in the group stage before beating Iraq in the quarterfinals, and Qatar in the semifinals with penalty shootouts.
