Volachith said the two countries have enjoyed a special defence cooperation, and promised to direct the Lao Ministry of National Defence to implement the cooperation agreements signed with Vietnam. He pledged  to work to build a border of peace, friendship, and development and improve the living conditions of people in border areas.

Minister Lich said the Vietnamese Party, State and army always attach importance to relations with Laos, and said the two Politburos will enhance defense cooperation and make it the mainstay of relations between Vietnam and Laos.

On Monday, Mr. Lich held talks with his Lao Defense Minister Chansamone Chanyalath, and the two ministers agreed that defence cooperation is an important pillar of bilateral relations. They agreed to enhance exchanges of experience in Party building, communication coordination, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, Governments, armies, and people.

The two men agreed to prevent conspiracies by hostile forces and support exchanges at the provincial level. Following the talks, they signed a cooperation plan for 2018.
