The Quang Ninh provincial Border Guard has deployed 400 officers and soldiers to help local residents secure their boats at safe docking areas. By 4:00 PM on Friday, people in at-risk areas had been evacuated.

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Anh Duc, head of the Dao Tran border guard station in Co To district, said that more than 30 officers and soldiers have been dispatched to help vessel owners and fishermen operating around Tran island seek safe shelter. “We have also sent personnel to assist islanders in securing their homes and vessels to minimize damage caused by Yagi."

Thai Binh, along with a number of other coastal provinces, has banned vessels from operating and completed the evacuation of people from high-risk areas.

"Authorities must strictly prohibit boats from going out to sea and ensure that all residents in high-risk areas are evacuated, with a detailed list of individuals. Forced evacuation will be implemented if necessary," Thai Binh provincial Party Secretary Ngo Dong Hai said while inspecting storm prevention efforts.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 234 km per hour near its centre, Yagi registers as the world's second-most powerful tropical cyclone in 2024 so far, after the Category 5 Atlantic hurricane Beryl, and the most severe in the Pacific basin this year.
