At recent sessions of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference held in New York, Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, expressed commitments to working collaboratively to ensure the success of the review process.
Ambassador Giang voiced support for the early entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and implementation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. He reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to NPT goals and the legitimate rights of nations to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and emphasized that Vietnam prioritizes nuclear research and application in healthcare, environmental protection, and energy security to deliver on its strategy of rapid, sustainable socio-economic development.
Vietnam has just restarted its nuclear power plant project to accelerate energy transition and achieve the goal of zero net emissions by 2050, Ambassador Giang said.
The Preparatory Committee unanimously nominated Vietnam to chair the 11th NPT Review Conference, based on a proposal by 120 member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.
