Vietnam protests at Taiwan’s plans for live firing drills on Ba Binh island

(VOVworld)- A spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Luong Thanh Nghi today/on Thursday responded to reporters asking about Vietnam’s reaction to Taiwan’s plan to conduct live firing exercises on the Ba Binh island in Vietnam’s Spratley archipelago on September 1st. "We protest strongly at Taiwan’s plan to conduct live firing drills on Ba Binh island in the Spratley archipelago. This act seriously violates Vietnam’s sovereignty, threatens peace, maritime security, increases tensions and complicates the situation in the East Sea. We demand that Taiwan changes its plans immediately", said Mr. Nghi.

Mr. Nghi also informed reporters of Vietnam’s external relation activities in the near future. Mr. Nghi said that Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will lead a Vietnamese delegation to the 16th Non Aligned Movement Conference in Iran later this month. Nghi said that Vietnam will make proactive, constructive and responsible contributions to promoting NAM as well as ensuring the movement’s fundamental principles. This will strengthen South South Cooperation, North-South Cooperation and promote Vietnam’s relations with other NAM member countries.
