Vietnam ready to expand energy cooperation with Russia

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has applauded Russia’s role in the global energy industry, which he said helps maintain stability and balance in the international energy market.

In a pre-recorded address to the Fourth Russian Energy Week taking place in Moscow from Wednesday to Friday, the Prime Minister said “Vietnam attaches importance to expanding energy cooperation with Russia and other countries, and at the same time wishes to receive support in finance, technology, administration, infrastructure, and human resource training in order to promote the accomplishment of its goals more strongly and effectively for the benefit of each country, the friendship between Vietnam and Russia, and sustainable and prosperous development of mankind.”

The Prime Minister said that a country strongly affected by climate change, Vietnam is well aware of the importance of transforming the energy source structure towards increasing the proportion of renewable energy associated with efficient, sustainable use of energy. Vietnam is developing a national electricity development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, which orients the structure of Vietnam's energy sources.

 “Currently, Vietnam is fine-tuning institutions, policies and laws to aid energy development in line with international trends, adapt to climate change, and promote its distinct potential, emerging opportunities, competitive advantages,” Mr. Chinh said.  

“We encourage the public-private partnership, continue to create favorable conditions for investors, enterprises with experience and advanced technology of Russia and other countries to invest and do business in renewable energy in Vietnam, a potential market.”

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the world is suffering from the synergistic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and the depletion of natural resources. Therefore, he stressed strengthening international cooperation between countries in ensuring energy security, sustainable development, and minimizing impact on the environment.
