(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam comfirmed 33 new domestic COVID-19 cases Monday noon, all in quarantine facilities and locked down areas, the Ministry of Health announced.
28 cases were recorded in Bac Giang, 4 in Hai Duong and 1 in Da Nang.
The new cases brought the national tally to 5,308, including 3,823 domestically-transmitted infections.
The cases in Bac Giang are associated with existing outbreaks at the province's Quang Chau, Van Trung and Dinh Tram industrial parks. All the cases in Hai Duong had contact with confirmed coronavirus cases. The case in Da Nang is linked with a local bar, which was a coronavirus hotspot.
Bac Giang has continued to have the highest infections so far, with 980 cases, followed by its neighbor Bac Ninh with 474.
On Monday morning, Vietnam recorded its 43rd coronavirus death, bringing the fatality tally in Vietnam's latest COVID-19 wave to 8.
The deceased patient is a 50-year-old man who had cirrhosis after being an alcoholic for years, according to the Ministry of Health.
He was admitted to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on April 25, where he was diagnosed with blood sepsis and cirrhosis.
On May 5 he tested positive with the coronavirus and has been put on ventilators and ECMO, among other treatments. His causes of death include Covid-19, septic shock, multiple organ failure and blood sepsis.
