Vietnam treasures UN support for its recovery from war, reconstruction, development
(VOVWORLD) -State President Luong Cuong hosted a banquet in Hanoi on Friday evening in honor of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the signing ceremony of the UN Nations Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention).

In his remarks, President Cuong said Vietnam, as an active and responsible member, always accompanies the United Nations, adding that Vietnam treasures the UN’s valuable support in helping the nation recover from war, rebuild and develop.

“We always remember and appreciate the valuable support that the UN has given to Vietnam to heal the wounds of war, build and develop the country. From the UN, Vietnam has come to the world, to cooperate in development and integration, contributing to the common efforts for peace, development and progress. And also from the UN, the world has come to Vietnam bringing knowledge, experience, resources and solidarity and helping Vietnam overcome difficulties and advance strongly,” the President said.

For his part, Secretary-General Guterres praised Vietnam’s extraordinary transformation from a war-torn country into one of the world’s notable success stories in development. He particularly applauded Vietnam's contributions to the UN’s peacekeeping activities, calling it a living proof of the path of peace and development and a "pillar of multilateralism".
