Vietnam vows to have IUU fishing yellow card lifted

(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnamese Government on Wednesday issued an official dispatch on preparing for the 5th visit of the European Commission (EC) inspection team and renewing efforts to have the EC’s yellow card warning against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing lifted.

The dispatch requires vigorous implementation 123 tasks, focusing on 5 key areas. They are legal framework; fleet management; monitoring, control, and supervision of fishing vessels; traceability of fisheries; and law enforcement and handling of violations in accordance with the EC’s 5 recommendations.

The document emphasizes that the program, scenario, and agenda of the meetings with the EC inspection team must be formulated comprehensively and specifically with clear assignment of responsibilities. The EC team is expected to conduct its fifth inspection in Vietnam in early March.
