Vietnam welcomes signing of Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire joint declaration

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam welcomes Cambodia and Thailand for signing a Joint Declaration at the 3rd Special Meeting of the Joint Border Committee (GBC) on Saturday, which agrees to a ceasefire and measures to de-escalate tensions along the border between the two countries, said Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang.

In response to a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the Joint Declaration, spokesperson Hang also said Vietnam believes that Cambodia and Thailand will effectively implement the agreements outlined in the Joint Declaration and continue talks to peacefully resolve disputes.

These must be done based on the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, in accordance with the Charter of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term benefit of both sides and the region, she added.

Vietnam will continue to closely monitor the situation, is ready to exchange views with Cambodia and Thailand, and take part in ASEAN's joint efforts to resolve disagreements between them, including enhancing the effectiveness of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), the spokesperson said.
