Vietnamese, Australian PMs discuss cooperation against Covid-19

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday discussed on the phone with his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison about ways to boost bilateral cooperation to fight Covid-19. Prime Minister Phuc gave a briefing on Vietnam’s disease situation and shared experience on coping with the disease.

He said Vietnam is ready to help Australia within its capacity to cope with the disease including providing medical equipment and other necessities. He asked the Australian government and relevant agencies to create safe conditions for Vietnamese students studying in Australia. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he hopes Vietnam will maintain production and export of essential goods despite impacts of the disease. Prime Minister Morrison promised to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to continue their studies in Australia. The two Prime Ministers promised to further deepen the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Australia, maintain contact at Foreign, Defense and Economic Ministerial levels, and aim to become one of each other’s 10 largest trade partners. They discussed ways to restore tourism, aviation, and people to people exchange when the epidemic is over.

As of Thursday evening, Vietnam has had 255 infection cases with 4 new cases reported on Thursday, according to the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control.  To date, 126 patients have fully recovered from the disease, and some more are expected to be discharged from hospital later Thursday.
