(VOVworld) - The Ministry of Justice has held talks on legal policy to share and update information on improvement to legislation on human rights in Vietnam. Deputy Minister Hoang The Lien said that protecting of human rights was a priority issue for the Party and State. At national level, basic human rights have been recognized in the constitution, institutionalized in various legislation, and guaranteed to be adhered to. Internationally, Vietnam has been acknowledged as having embraced the most important international treaties on human rights. The forum also discussed the role the Ministry of Justice should play when fine tuning legislation on human rights and recommendations of Universal Periodic Review. The participants also debated reports reviewing Vietnam’s Law on certain political civil rights, and how to evaluate the compatibility of Vietnamese criminal law and criminal procedures with international conventions on human rights, to which Vietnam is a signatory to.
