Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc said human trafficking has been more complicated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response to this year’s World Day Against Human Trafficking themed “Victims’ voices lead the way”, he called on ministries and sectors to attach key tasks and solutions mentioned in the national Program on prevention and control of human trafficking from 2021 to 2025 with a vision to 2030.
“Law enforcement agencies at the central level have used systemic measures to detect and strictly handle human trafficking crimes and cooperated with judicial agencies of other countries to prevent and break human trafficking rings and rescue victims. We also work together to receive, identify, and locate victims to promptly protect and rescue them. We need to listen and understand the victims in order to effectively prevent human trafficking, rescue victims, and help them reintegrate into society,” Ngoc said.
The Ministry of Public Security reported that from 2016-2020, functional agencies thwarted 260 human trafficking cases and arrested 340 criminals. About 500 victims were rescued, mostly women and children.
