Since 2006, people in hamlet 1 have contributed land and money to expand and pave lanes. Areca trees are grown on the two sides of the lanes. So far, 1.5 km of road has been asphalted, at a cost of 1,800 USD. The villagers have also made financial contributions to build a hamlet hall and a 1,000 sq.m sporting ground. Hoang Van Thao is a villager. “I’ve been living here for 30 years. The countryside has changed a lot. Hamlet 1 has a spacious hall. The State and people have worked together to develop rural areas. My family supported the program and made a contribution to the hamlet. We are very happy to have a sporting ground.”

People in Ju hamlet are delightedly talking about building a road to the river wharf. More than 580 households donated money and land and got involved in transporting materials to the construction site. The women are the happiest because carrying water from the river to their houses is now less difficult. H’Ngong Eban says: “Each household contributed 10 USD to make the road. Nor, the way to the river is convenient. We are very happy.”

With unity and consensus among the authority and people, Ju hamlet has obtained 13 of the 19 new rural criteria and 98% of the households met the title of cultural family. The hamlet has paid attention to preserve cultural values. The elderly people have devoted to teach young people playing Gongs, weaving brocade, and distill wine. Artisan Y Bloa Adrong says: “It’s difficult to encourage young people to join these activities. I organize a club and the head of club is in charge of urging members to come to the club. They practiced with bamboo gongs before playing copper gongs.  The club members gather every two months and artisans play gongs at the hamlet hall at the weekend. We also play gongs in our free time to entertain villagers after work.”

The lesson of mobilizing people’s strength to serve the people’s interest has been applied effectively in all hamlets. Nguyen Phuc Loi is head of hamlet 1’s Fatherland Front. “The people have been aware that the program benefits their interest. The Associations of war veterans and the elderly have mobilized their families to follow the movement. People in hamlet 1 have upheld the movement of promoting a cultural lifestyle in residential areas.”

Ea Tu earned the title of cultural commune at the city level for the third times. This year, the commune projects to achieve 11 of the 19 new rural criteria.
