The previous Asian Games participation record was set in Palembang, Indonesia, in 2018, with 11,300 athletes taking part.

Scheduled to run from September 28 to October 8, the most events will be held in Hangzhou city, with additional venues in five neighboring cities including Shaoxing, Ningbo, and Jinhua.
