VOVworld) – Marigiah from the Cham ethnic group in Xuan Loc district, Dong Nai province, is a role model in social work. Working for the local Women’s Association, Marigiah has been passionate about elevating women’s roles in the family and society.

Women’s right activist Marigiah frequently visits and learns about the needs and aspirations of the local women and provides them with advice and helps them solve daily problems. Throuhg her enthusiasm, Marigiah has also encouraged more and more women to join the local Women’s Association. Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet Suong, Chairwoman of the Women’s Association of Xuan Hung commune, Xuan Loc district, Dong Nai province, said: “Marigiah is considered as a prestigious woman of the Cham community. She has actively taken part in women’s movements and helped improve the lives of local women”.

Marigiah has taken practical action to support local women. She has raised funds from the community and given financial support to 20 households to develop production and supported 10 poor students. She has also initiated ideas such as a compassionate jar of rice and savings which are used to support local disadvantaged women.

Marigiah works with the commune’s community study center for women to open training classes in tailoring and husbandry techniques, and making artificial flowers. After their training, many Cham women have found stable jobs making an average income of around 3.5 to 5 million VND. Susana, a member of Xuan Hung commune’s Women’s Association, said: “Ms. Marigiah is a dynamic and enthusiastic woman both in her family and in society. She’s always willing to help us. She’s a role model in social work”.

Despite being busy with social work, Marigiah is still dedicated to her family: “I’m so happy when I get support from my husband and children. I always try to make a balance between my family and social work. I want to contribute more to the community”.
