At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over one set of remains to the US side. This result followed recent joint excavation efforts conducted by Vietnamese and US teams in Hue City.
Humanitarian cooperation on the search for and accounting of US MIAs began shortly after the Paris Peace Accords was signed in 1973. To date, the United States has identified and repatriated the remains of approximately 740 servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam.
This meaningful cooperation has contributed to strengthening bilateral efforts to address war legacies, including US support for searching and identifying missing Vietnamese soldiers, unexploded ordnance clearance, dioxin remediation, and assistance for war-affected persons with disabilities.
