Chum Sounry, spokesman for Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said the meeting will focus on the status of ASEAN's five-point consensus agreed with Myanmar's military leaders last year, and will, on that basis, decide what ASEAN's approach and next steps should be.

At a summit in Jakarta in April 2021, the nine ASEAN leaders and the Myanmar military chief agreed to five points: “immediate cessation of violence” with all parties exercising “utmost restraint”; a constructive dialogue among all parties; the mediation of such talks by a special envoy of the ASEAN chair; provisions of humanitarian assistance coordinated by ASEAN; and a visit to Myanmar by an ASEAN delegation, headed by the special envoy, to meet with all parties.
