In his speech, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked Vietnamese volunteer soldiers for helping Cambodia topple the Khmer Rouge, ending a dark chapter in Cambodia’s history, helping the country into a new era of independence, freedom, democracy and social development.
"The Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation, established in December 1978, led the Cambodian people to topple the brutal genocidal regime. The front received strong support and assistance from the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and peace and justice advocates around the world. January 7, 1979, witnessed the fall of the Pol Pot genocidal regime," said PM Hun Sen.
During its murderous four-year reign over Cambodia, the brutal Pol Pot regime killed 3 million people.
