Ceasefires declared ahead of Russia's Victory Day commemorations

[VOVWORLD] - Russia announced on Monday that its ceasefire would be between Friday and Saturday, when it traditionally marks Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War and hoped that the Ukrainian side will follow suit.

Russia has threatened to launch a massive retaliatory missile strike on the centre of Kyiv if Ukraine attempts to disrupt its celebrations.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky responded by declaring Ukraine’s truce starting Wednesday. He said Ukraine would act symmetrically from that moment onward. He said that it is time for Russian leaders to take real steps to end the conflict.
