That was the assessment of Colonel Bui Yen Tinh, Deputy Director of the Operations Department of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, at a working session with the Dak Lak provincial People's Committee on Wednesday on anti-IUU fishing measures in accordance with recommendations by the European Commission.
According to Colonel Tinh, communications on IUU fishing have been stepped upto make sure boat owners and fishermen understand the consequences of IUU fishing.
The Dak Lak People's Committee asked the provincial border guards to continue working with relevant forces to strengthen patrols, inspections, and controls, and promptly handle IUU violations. It called for the development of a mechanism for inter-agency coordination in monitoring and managing fishing vessels leaving and entering ports and sharing violation data.
Coastal localities are urged to continue monitoring and managing fishing vessels and fishermen and disseminating IUU fishing regulations to every boat owner and captain.
