For hundreds of years the festival has been one of the community’s most important spiritual events.
Each year, from the 10th to the 15th day of the 3rd lunar month, fishermen from Dong Tac village gather at the Whale God's shrine to express gratitude to the fishermen who pioneered the profession and established the village’s livelihood. and to pray for peace and prosperity, favorable weather, safe voyages, calm seas, and abundant catches.
Nguyen Van Le, Head of the Dong Tac Canal Management Board in Phu Yen ward, Dak Lak province, said: "Fishermen believe the God of the Sea will protect them from strong storms and winds. With that spiritual belief, our community has preserved this tradition for nearly 400 years. Every year, during the 3rd lunar month, we hold the festival to protect marine resources, and to safeguard the seas and islands of our Fatherland.”
