The new sanctions will mainly target Russia’s defense sector and shipping networks accused by the West of helping Moscow avoid export controls and oil price limits. The main goal is to reduce Russia’s income.
The EU has added 16 individuals and 7 other entities to its sanctions list, according to the EU Council. The list includes the Nakhimov Naval School, the military-patriotic club “Patriot”, a regional branch of DOSAAF Russia in the city of Sevastopol, and several Russian children’s centers.
Russia has not officially responded to the announced sanctions package, but Moscow has repeatedly said Western sanctions are ineffective and will not affect Russia’s strategic decisions.
