According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, emergency crews received reports of an explosion at around 12:45 p.m. local time aboard a yacht near Haulover Sandbar, a popular tourist destination. The victims suffered various burn injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the incident.
According to local media, the explosion occurred on a yacht anchored near the Haulover Marine Centre. The Miami Herald identified the vessel as the Press Cruiser 400 Express, a cabin cruiser more than 12 metres long from Sherman, Texas. Some witnesses suggested the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak.
