General Secretary and President Lam told a meeting with female deputies of the 16th National Assembly in Hanoi on Thursday, saying “Deputies must maintain regular contact with the grassroots level and dedicate time to meeting individuals who have limited opportunities to participate in formal forums. Starting from the specific circumstances of a family or a worker, a deputy must determine whether a given difficulty is an isolated case or a symptom of a policy shortcoming affecting a broader group of people. Oversight must contribute to safeguarding citizens' rights, enhancing the effectiveness of policy implementation, and exercising checks on power.”
The top leader emphasized that the 16th National Assembly bears a significant responsibility in institutionalizing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress to achieve goals set for 2030, and lay the foundation for the vision toward 2045. Throughout this process, the intellect, competence, and fortitude of women must be fully harnessed, he added.
General Secretary and President Lam urged National Assembly bodies and delegations to create opportunities for female deputies to participate in significant oversight activities. The findings from such oversight must be utilized to refine legislation, adjust policies, and address accountability in accordance with established authority. The outcomes of follow-up monitoring and the level of trust from constituents serve as essential criteria for evaluating the performance of deputies.
Reporting to General Secretary and President Lam during the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, who also serves as Chair of the Group of Female Deputies, said that the 16th National Assembly includes 150 female deputies, accounting for 30% of the total number of deputies.
Established in 2008, the Group of Female Deputies of the Vietnamese National Assembly has become a forum for fostering connections, exchanging experiences, and providing mutual support in parliamentary activities.
