The results led both candidates to the second round of the election.

With only 21.95% of the votes in favor, the radical left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon was eliminated. Jean-Luc Melenchon's constituency is considered the key to determining the result of between Macron and Le Pen in the second round scheduled for April 24.

In a repeat of the result 5 years ago, France’s 2022 presidential election is now down to the same two candidates - Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.

From now until April 20 is an important time during which the two candidates will face off in a debate broadcast live on national television.
