The event was chaired by Dr. Daniela De Ridder, Deputy Chairwoman of the Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs and its subcommittee on Civilian Crisis Prevention, Conflict Management and Integrated Action.

Addressing the conference, Ridder said the German Parliament and Government expressed concerns over the South China Sea issue, adding that she has received many comments from her MPs about the tensions in the waters and wanted to hear more from the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese experts in Germany.
A number of intellectuals and representatives of Vietnamese associations in Germany then summarized and updated information, legal status and current situation of the South China Sea for Ridder, who said she would discuss with MPs to bring the South China Sea issue to the German Parliament.
