Earlier the US said it conducted ​strikes on Iranian radar and ‌drone control sites in the city of Goruk and on Qeshm Island in what ​it said was a ​response to aggressive actions from Tehran. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later launched retaliatory strike on a US base in Kuwait.

Speaking to CNBC on Monday, President Trump said Iran had not formally notified the United States that it was suspending negotiations. In another social media post, Trump said talks with Iran were continuing at a rapid pace, despite reports that Tehran had halted the negotiations.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Monday that she called for the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in phone talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Takaichi expressed her hope that Iran will show the greatest possible flexibility and that an agreement can be reached as soon as possible.

French President Emmanuel Macron said France is ready to support efforts to reach a deal between the United States and Iran. He said a multinational maritime force led by France and the United Kingdom could be deployed after an agreement is reached to help protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
