Japan Prime Minister visits Indonesia with Ukraine, South China Sea in focus

(VOVWORLD) - Indonesia is the first leg of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s trip to Southeast Asia, where leaders of the countries discuss their bilateral cooperation and world issues of common concern including Ukraine and the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea).

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Indonesian President Joko Widodo met on Friday to strike deals in trade, investment, and infrastructure. They agreed to push up negotiations on the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), ease trade barriers, and open the Indonesia market for more Japan’s agro-fishery products. A Memorandum of Understanding on tighter cooperation in environmental protection and training of Indonesian migrant workers will be finalized soon.

Japan is Indonesia’s third biggest market and fifth major investor.
